Madinan · 18 ayat · 108th in order of revelation
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ لَهُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡحَمۡدُۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٌ
All that is in the heavens and all that is on earth extol Allah’s never-ending splendor: His are all holdings [dominion], and to Him all thanks are due; and He has the power to overcome everything.
هُوَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكُمۡ فَمِنكُمۡ كَافِرٞ وَمِنكُم مُّؤۡمِنٞۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ
He it is who created you: as a result some among you are such as deny Him [the recognition of His power and authority], and among you are such as corroborate [His power and authority]. And Allah is ever watchful of what you do.
خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَوَّرَكُمۡ فَأَحۡسَنَ صُوَرَكُمۡۖ وَإِلَيۡهِ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ
He created the heavens and the earth in harmony with truth and justice and fashioned you [on a scale] to perfect you; and to Him is the destiny [of all].
يَعۡلَمُ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَيَعۡلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعۡلِنُونَۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ
He knows whatever there is in the heavens and earth and He knows what you [people] conceal and what you [people] divulge: for Allah is very informed of what is [even] in the inklings [of an individual].
أَلَمۡ يَأۡتِكُمۡ نَبَؤُاْ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِن قَبۡلُ فَذَاقُواْ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهِمۡ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ
Have you not received the news about the God-deniers in times past who [as a consequence of their refutation of Allah] had to experience the nasty outcome of their own state of affairs? And to them is allotted a painful infliction:
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُۥ كَانَت تَّأۡتِيهِمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ فَقَالُوٓاْ أَبَشَرٞ يَهۡدُونَنَا فَكَفَرُواْ وَتَوَلَّواْۖ وَّٱسۡتَغۡنَى ٱللَّهُۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَنِيٌّ حَمِيدٞ
That [happens] because apostles [from Allah] came to them with distinct evidence [of truth and justice], but they would say, “[We can’t believe it]! Mortals guiding us!?” So they rejected [Allah and His apostles] and turned away. But then again, Allah is in no need [of them]: for Allah is self-sufficient, ever praiseworthy.
زَعَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَن لَّن يُبۡعَثُواْۚ قُلۡ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّي لَتُبۡعَثُنَّ ثُمَّ لَتُنَبَّؤُنَّ بِمَا عَمِلۡتُمۡۚ وَذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرٞ
The God-deniers claim that they will never be resurrected! Say, “Of course, by my Sustainer, you will most certainly be resurrected and thereafter you will be most surely notified of [the true value of] what you did [while you were earthlings]. And that is easy for Allah [to do].
فَـَٔامِنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَٱلنُّورِ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنزَلۡنَاۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِيرٞ
Therefore, commit yourselves to Allah and His Apostle and to the light [of scripture] that We have imparted. And Allah is very well familiar with what you do.
يَوۡمَ يَجۡمَعُكُمۡ لِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡجَمۡعِۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمُ ٱلتَّغَابُنِۗ وَمَن يُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ وَيَعۡمَلۡ صَٰلِحٗا يُكَفِّرۡ عَنۡهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِۦ وَيُدۡخِلۡهُ جَنَّٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدٗاۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
[There shall come] a time of day when He gathers you for [the ultimate] Day of Assembly — that Day of Loss and Gain! For, he who commits to Allah and does what is right and upright, He will [on that Day] expunge his bad deeds, and will admit him into gardens with rivers flowing beneath, therein to stay forever: that is the greatest achievement.
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَاۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ
And as for those who rejected Our power and authority [while they had the worldly opportunity to affirm it] and disputed Our power expositions — they are acquaintances of the Fire, there to remain perpetually: and what a disgraceful destiny!
مَآ أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِيبَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَمَن يُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ يَهۡدِ قَلۡبَهُۥۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَلِيمٞ
No misfortune can ever befall [a person] but for Allah’s clearance; and thus, whoever commits himself to Allah, [Allah] guides his heart [to this fact]; and Allah has definite knowledge of everything.
وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱلرَّسُولَۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّيۡتُمۡ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَىٰ رَسُولِنَا ٱلۡبَلَٰغُ ٱلۡمُبِينُ
Therefore, obey Allah and obey the Apostle: for if you turn away, [be advised that] Our Apostle’s only duty is to transfer a clear communication [from Us].
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ
Allah — there is no deity/authority except Him! In Allah, then, let the committed muslims place their trust.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِنَّ مِنۡ أَزۡوَٰجِكُمۡ وَأَوۡلَٰدِكُمۡ عَدُوّٗا لَّكُمۡ فَٱحۡذَرُوهُمۡۚ وَإِن تَعۡفُواْ وَتَصۡفَحُواْ وَتَغۡفِرُواْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٌ
O you who are firmly committed! Watch out! You may indeed have spouses [husbands or wives] and children who are your enemies [in the long run]! But if you pardon [them without harsh punishment], and excuse [them without bad feelings], and forgive them [anticipating their apology] — then, behold, Allah is forever-forgiving, forever-merciful.
إِنَّمَآ أَمۡوَٰلُكُمۡ وَأَوۡلَٰدُكُمۡ فِتۡنَةٞۚ وَٱللَّهُ عِندَهُۥٓ أَجۡرٌ عَظِيمٞ
Your wealth and your [illusory] production powers are but a contentious ordeal, whereas with Allah there is a remarkable reward.
فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ وَٱسۡمَعُواْ وَأَطِيعُواْ وَأَنفِقُواْ خَيۡرٗا لِّأَنفُسِكُمۡۗ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفۡسِهِۦ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ
Therefore, safeguard yourselves [against Allah’s corrective power] as best as you can, and listen [to Him], and do as you are told [by Him]. And spend [of what you have on those who have less than their needs], as it is better for your own selves: and whoever averts his own self’s stinginess — it is they, they who are successful.
إِن تُقۡرِضُواْ ٱللَّهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنٗا يُضَٰعِفۡهُ لَكُمۡ وَيَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ شَكُورٌ حَلِيمٌ
If you offer unto Allah a felicitous loan, He will multiply it [in proceeds] for you and will forgive you [your sins]: for Allah is ever appreciative, forbearing —
عَٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ
The One who knows all about the world beyond [a created being’s range of] senses and the world within [a created being’s range of] senses — the Affectionately Grand, the Limitlessly Wise.
