أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ
Have you pondered that person who contravenes the dīn?
107al-Mā‘ūnNecessary Assistanceسُورَةُ الماعون
Makkan · 7 ayat · 17th in order of revelation
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِي يَدُعُّ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ
Behold, he is a person who casts the orphan aside,
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ
And is not keen on feeding [the toiling one] who is in need.
فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُصَلِّينَ
Wretched are the prayer attendees
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَن صَلَاتِهِمۡ سَاهُونَ
Who are oblivious to [the meanings and substance of] their prayers —
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ يُرَآءُونَ
Who want to show off,
وَيَمۡنَعُونَ ٱلۡمَاعُونَ
And, withal, deny all necessary assistance [when it is needed]!
